A Book Review/The Other Side Of The Couch-Bir Psikiyatristin Gizli Defteri
The Other Side Of The Couch-Bir Psikiyatristin Gizli Defteri
Gary Small is an psyciatrist and Gigi Vorgan is his wife. In that book Gigi wrote about her husband's patients and their reasons to go to a psyciatrist.Of course they changed a lot of things about that stories because they have to be respectful to their patient's privacy. But still its really entertaining to read.
(I don’t know why did they translate the name of the book to Turkish as “Bir Psikiyatristin Gizli Defteri” when the original name of the book is “The Other Side Of The Couch” but I definitely can say that the Turkish version of the name is more interesting than the original one)
The book consists of fifteen diffrent parts, in each part there are different stories. Each story lasts about 15-20 pages. Since they are short the stories are easy to read. They have really interesting points.
I am going to give an example about one of the stories but If you are planning to read it you must skip this paragraph because there are going to be some spoilers. In the fifth story of the book(the name of it is “Baby Love”) there is a women who want to be a mother but she has some health problems so she can not be pregnant. After a while she became an obsessed to have a child. So she starts to think that she is pregnant when she is not. She believed it so much that she even had pregnancy symtomps. Her hormones were working like she is a pregnant woman. Her belly was getting bigger and bigger just like pregnant women even there is not a baby. That made me really shocked when I first read it. But then I realize all of we be in situations like that in our lifes(not that much but) For instance sometimes when we lie to someone we are acting to the person that we are lying to make him/her to believe us but we get confused and we really believe our own lie for a moment.
Anyway. If i do not stop right now I am going to tell you all the stories in the book so I am finishing this blog in here.
There are lots of interesting stories about diffrent topics like herd phcology or weird kind of obsessions. I really recommend this book to all of you, I would definitely read it if there is a second book with stories like that from that writer.
This sounds like a great book. The story you shared is really interesting and your comment about it is awesome. I normally don't read such books, I'm more into classics, but the way you described it made me want to. Thanks Cemre.
